  • I’m not sure if there’s this kind of planting in other countries but in China Bonsai has a long history which almost let itself possess some kind of culture. It is a kind of man-made nature. The mother wide natural scenery is concentrated in a small pot through specially designing by Bonsai maker. Bonsai is also described as “The silent poem and the three-dimensional painting”

Bonsai is made of three main elements, that are scenery, pot and stand. Of course, the scenery is the most important one.

There are several different kinds of Bonsai according to the different sceneries. Such as tree-root Bonsai, hill-water Bonsai and so on.

  • ShanTang Street

    February 23rd, 2009

I enjoyed a nice afternoon at last weekend wandering on the Shan Tang Street. Shan Tang Street is an old street at Suzhou. Actually it is not only one street, it’s a block with the Shan Tang Street as its center.

According to the written record, Shan Tang Street has more than 1100 years history, which is constructed in the Tang dynasty. The style of the street is very traditional Suzhou Water Land. Shang Tang river rests along with the street with many bridges on.

  • Winter is Back

    February 18th, 2009

As an old Chinese saying, the weather of spring is just like the baby’s face, cry suddenly and smile suddenly. It dropped more than 20 degree during the past 2 and 3 days and I have to put on my heavy coat again. The wind which chills to my bone when I was walking outside this morning reminds me that it is still winter. Waiting for the real spring:)

  • The temperature rises unbelievable recent days. Today, Feb 12, it was 27C, almost 81 F! I caught the news on TV that according to the meteorology record of Suzhou, this  Feb 12 is the hottest one in the last 59 years!  I thought the winter just said goodbye and the spring is on her road. So would you please take is easy? I really want to enjoy more days of nice spring weather. Summer, please please have a little more patience.

  • Snow in the last Winter

    February 12th, 2009

Winter this year in Suzhou is not quite cold as last year. We had a unexpected big snowfall in the early days of 2008.

Though quite a lot of inconvenience when the snow hit us last year, now all nice memory of the beautiful picturesque view. Actually this town is really rare to meet so huge snow even in winter:)
